Green Mountain Fire & Garnet Fire (MTMTS)

Wildfire Status:

The Green Mountain Fire and Garnet Fire, which ignited on July 9, 2025, are currently active south of Ovando, Montana. As of the latest update on July 11, the Green Mountain Fire has burned approximately 20 acres, while the Garnet Fire has expanded to 109 acres. Both fires are uncontained, with no percentage of the perimeter currently secured. The initial cause of these wildfires has been attributed to lightning.

Firefighting efforts are being coordinated by Ken Parks' Western Montana Type 3 All-Hazards Incident Management Team, which took command of the situation on July 10. A total of 157 personnel, supported by four engines and aerial resources, are actively engaged in combating the flames and preventing further spread. The Garnet Fire has exhibited aggressive behavior, with spotting occurring up to a quarter mile ahead of the main fire front, prompting a rapid response from firefighting teams.
