Grave Butte Fire (IDNCF)

Wildfire Status:

The Grave Butte Fire, detected on July 29, 2024, is currently a lightning-caused wildfire located approximately ten miles west of Jerry Johnson Campground. As of August 22, 2024, the fire has grown to cover an area of 10 acres and is situated in extremely inaccessible terrain, which complicates firefighting efforts. Fire management is currently overseen by the Powell Ranger District Fire Management, which is actively monitoring the situation.

Fire agencies are responding to the Grave Butte Fire with caution, particularly due to the challenging landscape and the presence of outflow winds from surrounding thunderstorms that have influenced the fire's behavior. Although there are no official closures, fire management is advising the public to avoid National Forest Service Road #107 (Saddle Camp Road) to ensure safety for both the public and firefighting personnel, as increased traffic from fire resources is expected.
