Currant Creek Fire (COUPD)

Wildfire Status:

The Currant Creek Fire, located approximately 5 miles east/northeast of Cedaredge, Colorado, has been declared contained as of August 3, 2024. Initially reported on July 27, 2024, the fire rapidly grew to about 80 acres before local firefighting resources could engage. The fire primarily consumed juniper, sage, oak brush, and grasses. A localized thunderstorm that occurred shortly after the initial response delivered heavy rain and hail, significantly reducing fire activity and enabling firefighters to tackle the blaze more effectively. By the evening of the first day, the fire's size was estimated at 182 acres.

Firefighting efforts included both ground and aerial resources, with helicopters dropping water and retardant on the fire. As of the latest updates, the total size of the fire stands at 193 acres, and 100% of the perimeter has been contained. Fire management has transitioned to local agency personnel, who will continue to monitor the area and conduct suppression repair as necessary. The cause of the fire remains undetermined, and no further updates will be provided unless conditions change.
