Currant Creek Fire (COUPD)

Wildfire Status:

The Currant Creek Fire, located approximately 5 miles east/northeast of Cedaredge, Colorado, was first reported on July 27, 2024, at 2 PM. Initially, the fire was growing rapidly and reached an estimated size of 80 acres before local volunteer fire department resources arrived. A localized thunderstorm with heavy rain and hail helped to reduce the fire's intensity, allowing firefighters to engage more effectively. As of the last update, the fire has grown to 193 acres, primarily affecting juniper, sage, oak brush, and grasses.

Fire response included aerial resources that arrived on scene by 4:30 PM on the day of the report, which dropped water and retardant to help suppress the flames. Fire managers successfully declared the fire contained by 5 PM on August 3, 2024, and command was transferred to Type 4 local agency personnel for ongoing monitoring and suppression repair.

Current conditions show that the fire perimeter is fully contained, with no further updates expected unless significant changes occur. The total personnel involved in the firefighting efforts numbered nine, and the estimated containment date was achieved as planned. The incident's cause remains undetermined, but the quick response and favorable weather conditions significantly aided in controlling the fire's spread.
