Wright Draw (COGRD)

Wildfire Status:

The Wright Draw Fire, part of the Turner Gulch incident, is currently active and being managed by the Rocky Mountain Complex Incident Management Team 1 (CIMT1) as of July 15, 2025. The fire was first detected on July 10, 2025, during a red flag event characterized by extensive dry lightning. It is burning on both sides of Unaweep Canyon, an area that presents challenging access for firefighting efforts, and poses a threat to the canyon's ecological values and nearby Highway 141, especially around Gateway, Colorado.

Firefighters are facing extreme drought conditions, steep terrain, and persistent hot and dry weather, which are complicating containment efforts. As a precautionary measure, evacuation orders have been issued for areas along Highway 141 between mile markers 131 and 134, with additional evacuations expected should the fire activity escalate. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about evacuation updates via the Mesa County Sheriff’s Office on social media and are advised to sign up for emergency alerts.

In terms of public safety, rolling closures of Highway 141 are in effect due to fire activity, and citizens are urged to avoid the area to allow firefighters unimpeded access to combat the blaze. Unauthorized aircraft, including drones, are prohibited in the fire area to ensure the safety of firefighting operations.
