Wildfire Status:
The Peak Fire, located in the Stanislaus National Forest, has reached 100% containment as of October 17, 2024. Firefighters have transitioned from active suppression to suppression repair, focusing on mopping up the interior of the burned area and ensuring that any remaining hot spots are adequately managed. Crews are diligently adding water to smoldering areas and addressing weakened trees and snags that pose safety risks. The incident has burned a total of 316 acres.
To ensure continued safety, a Forest Order went into effect on October 11, restricting access to certain areas, including Herring Creek and Hammill Canyon Loop, due to active fire hazards and unstable trees near roads and trails. This closure is set to last until December 5, 2024, as a precaution to protect both firefighters and the public while allowing firefighting efforts to continue without impediments.
Currently, there are 81 personnel committed to the incident, supported by 4 engines, 2 water tenders, 3 hand crews, and a Type 2 helicopter. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
