Peak Fire (CASTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Peak Fire, located in the Stanislaus National Forest, has reached 100% containment as of October 17, 2024. Firefighters are now transitioning into suppression repair, focusing on mopping up the interior of the burned area. They are actively monitoring for hot spots and applying water to any smoldering stump holes and downed trees, although safety concerns remain due to weakened trees and snags in the area. The public is reminded to adhere to the Forest Order Closure, which restricts access to certain areas affected by the fire.

As a precaution, a Forest Order went into effect on October 11, restricting access to Herring Creek and Hammill Canyon Loop until December 5, 2024. This decision was made to ensure both firefighter and public safety due to the presence of hazardous standing trees and the ongoing risk associated with the fire's aftermath. Firefighting resources currently include four engines, two water tenders, three hand crews, and a Type 2 helicopter, with a total of 81 personnel assigned to the incident.

The Peak Fire has burned approximately 316 acres, and its cause is still under investigation. The incident commander, Justin Franklin, along with trainee Ryan Hinojoza, continues to oversee the operations. As recovery efforts proceed, public safety remains the top priority, and the fire agency appreciates the community's cooperation during this challenging time.
