Inn Fire 2025
Wildfire Status:
The Inn Fire, which ignited on May 22, 2025, at approximately 3:36 p.m. on the west side of Highway 395 near Mono City, California, has been declared 100% contained as of June 4, 2025. The fire rapidly spread due to erratic winds, prompting a full suppression response that included firefighting aircraft. In response to the threat posed by the fire, Highway 395 was closed in both directions, and evacuation orders were issued for Mono City and later for Lundy Canyon. These evacuation orders were downgraded to warnings by the evening of May 24.
As of now, the fire has burned an area of 728 acres, with fire management personnel continuing to monitor the site for any remaining hot spots. While the fire is contained, the soil's peat-heavy composition may hold heat for an extended period, necessitating ongoing vigilance from fire crews. The next steps involve patrolling the area and ensuring that any smoldering remnants are fully extinguished.
Weather conditions in the region remain a concern, as a season-ending precipitation event is needed for the fire to be completely considered out. The potential for lingering smoldering and visible smoke remains, particularly in areas where heat pockets may persist. Fire officials are closely assessing the situation to ensure public safety and are emphasizing the importance of current area closures, including those affecting Mono Lake County Park. Highway 395 is currently fully open, providing access to the area.
