Inn Fire 2025 (CAINF)

Wildfire Status:

The Inn Fire, which ignited on May 22, 2025, at approximately 3:36 PM, has now been reported as 100% contained as of June 4, 2025. The fire started on the west side of Highway 395, just south of Mono City, California, and rapidly spread due to erratic winds, prompting a full suppression response that included aerial firefighting efforts. Highways in the vicinity were closed to ensure public safety due to the fire's proximity to power lines. Evacuation orders were initially issued for Mono City and later for Lundy Canyon, but these were downgraded to warnings by the evening of May 24.

Currently, the fire has burned an area of 728 acres, with minimal smoldering reported as it remains contained. Fire crews are engaged in patrolling for any remaining hot spots and assessing the effectiveness of their suppression efforts. Despite full containment, the area continues to hold pockets of heat, particularly in peat-rich soil, requiring ongoing monitoring. A significant weather event is anticipated as crucial for fully extinguishing the fire, as the current weather dynamics do not support rapid cooling or moisture in the region.

While Highway 395 is now fully open, there are still area closures in effect around the fire zone and Mono Lake County Park to protect public health and safety from environmental hazards. A soft closure remains in place for Cemetery and Thompson Roads, restricted to residents only. The fire's cause is still under investigation, and the incident is being managed under the oversight of the Bureau of Land Management and the Inyo National Forest.
