2024 SQF Lightning (CASQF)

Wildfire Status:

As of July 14, 2024, the SQF Lightning wildfire complex in Sequoia National Forest is currently active, consisting of two significant fires: the Trout Fire and the Long Fire. The Trout Fire has burned approximately 23,822 acres and is reported to be 98% contained, while the Long Fire has affected around 9,204 acres and is 97% contained. These fires were ignited by a lightning storm on July 13, 2024, and are primarily located northeast of Isabella Lake in the Dome Land Wilderness area of Tulare County.

Fire agencies have deployed resources to manage the situation, focusing on containment and monitoring. With a minimal fire behavior reported for both fires, the current response involves periodic reassessment to ensure stability and control of the perimeter. There are no active personnel responding on-site due to the high containment levels. The incident commander, Rob Hedlund, oversees the operations, ensuring that the situation remains under control.

Weather conditions are a critical factor in the ongoing management of these fires. Forecasts show afternoon highs remaining above normal, with temperatures expected to rise 10-12 degrees above average toward the end of the week. Dry conditions are anticipated to persist, which could pose challenges for fire crews. Winds are expected to be terrain-driven, but there is currently no heat detected in the fire areas, indicating a low likelihood of flare-ups or new fire activity in the immediate future. The focus remains on monitoring and patrolling both fire areas to maintain containment and assess any changes in conditions.
