Wildfire Status:
As of September 15, 2024, the 2024 SQF Lightning wildfire complex, which includes the Trout Fire and Long Fire in Tulare County, California, is nearly contained. The Trout Fire has burned approximately 23,822 acres and is reported to be 98% contained, while the Long Fire has affected around 9,204 acres, with a containment level of 97%. Both fires were ignited following a lightning storm on July 13, 2024, in the Sequoia National Forest.
Fire response efforts have included ongoing monitoring and patrols, as fire behavior remains minimal for both fires. The incident commander, Rob Hedlund, has indicated that the priority is to reassess the fire's status periodically to ensure that there are no changes in activity. No personnel are currently assigned to active firefighting, as the situation is stable, with no heat detected in the affected areas.
Weather conditions are a concern, with forecasts indicating afternoon highs that may reach 10-12 degrees above normal in the coming days, alongside continued dry conditions. Terrain-driven winds are expected, which could affect fire behavior if any new activity arises. Despite these weather concerns, both fires are currently inactive, and crews will continue to monitor the situation closely.
