Horseshoe Fire 2024 (CAINF)

Wildfire Status:

The Horseshoe Fire, which ignited on October 30, 2024, in rugged terrain near Lone Pine, California, is currently under control. Initially mapped at 6.4 acres, the fire grew significantly due to strong winds and dry conditions, reaching approximately 4,537 acres by November 23. Firefighters employed a mix of hand lines and aerial water drops to contain the fire, with significant snowfall on November 14 and 15 aiding in suppression efforts. By November 25, containment efforts had successfully reduced the fire's containment status to 95%, and it is now 100% contained as of January 28, 2025.

In response to the fire's escalation, the Inyo County Sheriff's Office initiated evacuations for several zones, including the De La Cour Lavender Ranch. As conditions improved and aggressive firefighting strategies were implemented, evacuations were lifted by November 27. Although no smoke is currently visible, there are still concerns about potential hazards in the area, such as debris flows and flooding due to the fire's impact on the landscape.

Weather conditions during this period have fluctuated, with significant precipitation helping to control the fire. Despite the progress made, ongoing monitoring of previously burned areas remains critical to address any hidden pockets of heat that could reignite under the right conditions.
