Horse Fire (CASHF)

Wildfire Status:

The Horse Fire, located west of Lakehead in Shasta County, California, is currently burning within the footprint of the 2018 Carr Fire. As of July 5, 2025, the fire has spread across 385 acres, with containment efforts achieving a significant increase from 12% in the morning to 60% by the afternoon. This progress reflects the hard work and coordination of ground crews and aerial resources deployed to combat the blaze. Firefighters are utilizing GPS technology to accurately assess fire boundaries, a crucial step in managing resources and maintaining containment lines.

The fire ignited on June 30, 2025, following a series of thunderstorms that produced over 3,100 lightning strikes in the Shasta-Trinity National Forest, triggering multiple wildfires in the area. In response to the Horse Fire, a total of 198 personnel are actively engaged in firefighting efforts, with additional resources en route to bolster their capacity. The current weather conditions are characterized by warm and dry spells, which pose challenges to suppression efforts.
