Wildfire Status:

The Toyo Fire, located near Peridot, AZ, is currently 90% contained with a total size of 1,778 acres. The fire started on May 10, 2024, and the estimated containment date is May 31, 2024. There are currently 27 personnel on the ground working to fully contain the fire, which is primarily fueled by brush and short grass. The incident commander, Carl Schwope from Southwest Area Team 1, is overseeing the firefighting efforts.

After a week of intense firefighting efforts, the management of the fire is transitioning back to the local unit, with resources returning to their home units. The community, Tribal Council, and San Carlos Agency have been supportive throughout the firefighting process. The current weather conditions pose challenges, with breezy westerly winds in the afternoon and early evening, along with hot and dry weather persisting. The response from fire agencies, along with community support, has been crucial in the progress made towards containing the Toyo Fire.
