Wildfire Status:
The White Sage Fire, which ignited on July 9, 2025, about 1.5 miles from White Sage, AZ, and approximately 15 miles southeast of Fredonia, AZ, has rapidly expanded to cover 8,700 acres. Currently, the fire is 0% contained. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) reported the outbreak following a thunderstorm that passed through the area, sparking significant fire activity due to dry conditions and gusty winds.
As of July 11, fire crews have encountered extreme fire behavior, characterized by spotting and torching, exacerbated by sustained winds of 15-20 mph and very low humidity levels. These conditions have made it difficult for firefighters to safely engage with the blaze. The fire's aggressive spread prompted the activation of a Complex Incident Management Team and the coordination of evacuations with the Coconino County Sheriff’s office to ensure public safety.
Fire management officials have prioritized the safety of both firefighters and the public. They are requesting that residents avoid the area to ensure unobstructed access for fire resources. Evacuations are ongoing, and the BLM is working closely with local emergency management agencies on closures and safety protocols. The situation remains fluid, and updates will continue as firefighting efforts progress.
