Monroe Canyon (UTFIF)

Wildfire Status:

The Monroe Canyon wildfire, discovered on July 13, 2025, at approximately 2:22 PM, is currently raging in timberland near the communities of Richfield, Monroe, and Koosharem, Utah. The fire has shown active surface spread with tree torching and poses a significant risk for short to long-range crown runs and medium-range spotting. Fire activity remains high to extreme, with measurable perimeter advancement and very high heat intensity primarily driven by ongoing hot and dry weather conditions. As of the latest update, the fire has consumed approximately 8,646 acres, and no containment has been achieved.

In response to the escalating situation, Great Basin Team 3, a Complex Incident Management Team, has been deployed to lead suppression efforts, officially taking command on July 16, 2025. Currently, there are 389 personnel engaged in firefighting operations. Planned actions include point protection activities in the Manning and Monroe Meadows residential areas and preparations for potential fire threats to the Magelby Reservoir community. Efforts are underway to construct indirect dozer lines west of the fire to safeguard the community of Monroe.

Weather conditions are a critical concern for firefighting efforts. Elevated to critical fire weather is anticipated, with strong west-southwest winds gusting up to 25 mph. Afternoon temperatures are expected to reach the 90s in the valley and the mid-80s within the fire area, combined with low humidity levels dropping into the teens to low 20s. Although isolated showers and thunderstorms may occur, the likelihood of significant rain remains low, which could further complicate containment efforts as fire behavior is expected to remain active, particularly in the northeastern flank due to wind alignment.
