Stronghold Fire (AZA3S)

Wildfire Status:

As of May 6, 2025, the Stronghold Fire in the Coronado National Forest is currently 85% contained, with no change in its size, remaining at 2,138 acres. The fire ignited on April 28, 2025, near Sunsites-Pearce, approximately 16 miles south of Cochise, and was exacerbated by high winds and drought-stricken vegetation during the initial attack period. Firefighting efforts included the deployment of heavy aircraft, such as Single Engine Air Tankers and Large Air Tankers, which were crucial in slowing the fire's advance towards residential areas. Unfortunately, one secondary structure was reported destroyed, and the incident is still under investigation.

Fire agencies have made significant progress in containing the blaze despite challenging weather and topographical conditions. Recent updates indicate that the Cochise County Sheriff's Office has lifted some evacuation orders, allowing residents to return to their homes in certain areas previously under the "GO" status, now downgraded to "SET."
