Wildfire Status:
The Ranch Fire, located approximately 19 miles southeast of Patagonia in Santa Cruz County, Arizona, is currently 47% contained, with ongoing efforts focused on mop-up operations to eliminate any lingering heat along the fire's edge and within the drainages. Since its ignition at 10:00 AM on June 4, the fire has burned through 2,751 acres, driven primarily by wind and heavy fuels including grass, brush, and oak. More than 130 personnel, including one hotshot crew and multiple engines, remain assigned to the incident, working diligently to ensure no hotspots are left that could reignite the fire.
Firefighting resources have included heavy aerial support, with the deployment of a Very Large Air Tanker (VLAT) and two Large Air Tankers (LATs), alongside Single Engine Air Tankers (SEATs). These aerial efforts have contributed to moderating the fire's activity, allowing ground crews to better manage the situation. The Santa Cruz County Office of Emergency Management has lifted the Set status for residences north of the fire, indicating that immediate evacuation concerns have diminished.
Looking ahead, weather conditions are expected to remain hot and dry, which could pose challenges to containment efforts as the weekend approaches. Fire agencies will continue monitoring for any heat or smoke within the fire's perimeter and will sustain their focus on thorough mop-up operations in the coming operational periods. Residents are encouraged to stay informed through local emergency alerts and follow safety protocols as necessary.
