Wildfire Status:

As of May 6, 2025, the Stronghold Fire, located 16 miles south of Cochise in the Coronado National Forest, is currently 85% contained with a total area burned of 2,138 acres. The fire started on April 28, 2025, at approximately 11:30 AM, and was initially fueled by high winds and drought-stricken vegetation. Despite its rapid growth at the onset, effective fire suppression efforts, including the deployment of Single Engine Air Tankers and Large Air Tankers, have helped to curb its spread. Unfortunately, one secondary structure was destroyed during the fire, and the cause remains under investigation.

The response from fire agencies has been robust, with a current personnel count of 36 on scene. The Coronado National Forest has recently lifted its Temporary Occupancy and Use Area Order, indicating significant progress in managing the situation. Local authorities, including the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, have also been involved, lifting evacuation orders for affected residents as containment efforts improved. They continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates to the community.

Favorable weather conditions, including cooler temperatures and higher humidity, have contributed to minimal fire activity in recent days, allowing crews to gain the upper hand in containing the blaze. The fuels involved primarily consist of grass, brush, oak, and juniper, which are typical of the area. Fire management teams remain vigilant as they work toward full containment and investigate the fire's cause. For further updates and information, residents are encouraged to follow local fire management agencies on social media and official websites.
