Fish Creek Fire (WYBTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Fish Creek Fire, currently burning in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, was discovered on August 16, 2024, and is located approximately 7 miles southwest of Togwotee Pass. As of now, the fire has consumed an area of 25,009 acres and is reported to be 69% contained. Firefighting efforts are ongoing, utilizing a confine/point protection strategy, which aims to restrict the wildfire to specific areas using natural barriers and protective measures such as pumps and sprinkler systems.

In terms of firefighting resources, there are currently 378 personnel assigned to the incident, including nine hand crews, seven engines, and one helicopter, among other equipment. The Northern Rockies Team 2 is in command following a transition from Team 1 earlier in September. Fire officials are actively monitoring weather conditions that may affect fire behavior, and they are implementing strategies to minimize the impact on identified values-at-risk in the vicinity of the fire.

Due to the ongoing fire activity, a joint Closure Order has been issued for areas surrounding the fire by both the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests. Residents in the Brooks Lake Road area are under a Level 3 Evacuation notice, which requires immediate evacuation. Additionally, smoke from the fire has led to limited visibility on US Highway 26/287, prompting the Wyoming Department of Transportation to coordinate with local emergency management to ensure the safety of both motorists and firefighters. Residents are advised to stay informed through local updates and to refrain from entering closed areas.
