Wildfire Status:

The Fish Creek Fire, located approximately 7 miles southwest of Togwotee Pass in the Bridger-Teton National Forest, was first discovered on August 16, 2024. Currently, the fire is 79% contained and has burned through heavy timber across an area of 25,052 acres. The firefighting efforts are being managed under a confine/point protection strategy, which aims to restrict the fire's spread using natural barriers and various protective measures, including the installation of pumps and sprinkler systems to safeguard values-at-risk.

Fire agencies have mobilized substantial resources to combat the blaze, with a total of 349 personnel on the ground, including 9 hand crews, 3 engines, 13 pieces of heavy equipment, and 2 helicopters. The command of the operation transitioned from Northern Rockies Team 1 to Northern Rockies Team 2 on September 7, 2024, to ensure continued management of the firefighting efforts. In light of the ongoing situation, a joint Closure Order has been issued by both the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests, restricting access to certain areas to protect the safety of the public and firefighting personnel.

Residents in the Brooks Lake Rd, East & West Pinnacle Dr., and Breccia Dr. areas have been placed under a Level 3 Evacuation notice, meaning immediate evacuation is necessary. Authorities are advising residents to take essential items and to check in with neighbors who may require assistance. Additionally, smoke from the fire has affected visibility on US Highway 26/287, prompting the Wyoming Department of Transportation to coordinate closely with fire officials to ensure the safety of motorists. Travelers are encouraged to check road conditions via the Wyoming Department of Transportation's website or mobile app before heading out.
