Wildfire Status:

The Shoofly Fire, currently burning on the Wenatchee River Ranger District of the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, has reached an area of approximately 104 acres. The fire is located on the southeast slope of Shoofly Mountain, characterized by steep terrain and a mix of sub-alpine fir and older burn scars. As of now, 63% of the fire's perimeter is contained, and the incident is being managed under a full suppression strategy by air and ground firefighting resources. The incident commander is Andrew Mendiguren from the U.S. Forest Service.

Fire activity has been minimal, with the blaze primarily smoldering in dead and down fuels, exhibiting little movement beyond its current boundaries. Firefighters have established control lines and are utilizing natural features to help contain the fire. The current strategy involves continuous monitoring and patrolling of these control lines, with no personnel actively engaged on the ground.

Weather conditions are currently a concern, as high pressure is expected to build over the area, leading to temperatures rising into the 80s and low humidity levels. There is a slight chance of wetting rain and lightning starting Wednesday morning, which could potentially influence fire behavior. Consistent winds of around 10 mph are also anticipated throughout the week. Campground, road, and trail closures have been implemented for public safety, and information regarding these closures is available on the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest website. The estimated date for full containment of the fire is set for October 31, 2024.
