Wildfire Status:

The Miners Complex Fires, located approximately 21 air miles east of Darrington, Washington, currently encompass a total area of 1,098 acres. These wildfires were ignited by lightning strikes following a significant dry lightning storm that affected the Pacific Northwest between July 17th and 18th, 2024. Despite the active situation, no structures have been damaged, and there are no homes currently threatened. As of now, containment efforts have not succeeded, with 0% of the perimeter controlled, and the estimated containment date is projected for October 31, 2024.

Fire management teams have deployed smokejumpers and conducted reconnaissance flights to assess the fire’s severity and potential growth. The Miners Complex consists of eight individual fires, including the Miners, Vista Ridge, and Dolly Creek Fires, among others. While some of these fires are showing decreased activity, particularly the Miners, Middle Ridge, Dolly, and Plummer fires, the Sulphur Fires remain active at higher elevations. Fire debris has been noted near the Suiattle River Trail, which, alongside the Sulphur Mountain Trail, remains closed due to ongoing fire activity.

Current weather conditions are critical to the fire's progression, as strong winds coupled with record-breaking dry timber fuel continue to pose a risk for fire growth. Fire managers anticipate that the fires will persist until significant rainfall occurs. Meanwhile, the Pacific Crest Trail has partially reopened, although hikers are advised to exercise caution due to the potential hazards of fire-weakened trees and the smell of smoke in the area. Authorities emphasize the importance of safety measures for those traversing fire-affected regions, including avoiding camping near dead or damaged trees, especially during windy conditions.
