Six Mile (WACOA)

Wildfire Status:

The Six Mile wildfire, which ignited on August 18, 2024, has currently burned approximately 113 acres and is located two miles east of Nine Mile Hellgate Road, near the head of Cottonwood Creek. As of the latest update on August 24, 2024, the fire is 90% contained, with firefighting efforts progressing steadily. The incident is being managed by Incident Commander Shane Robson and a team of 25 personnel. The estimated date for full containment is projected for August 31, 2024.

Fire agencies have reported minimal significant events regarding the fire's behavior, with the flames primarily backing, flanking, and creeping through the terrain, which consists of tall grass, timber, and brush. The area affected by the wildfire is within a five-year-old burn scar, which has created a heavy snag component and emerging brush and grass in the understory, helping to moderate the fire's intensity.

Weather conditions over the next 24 hours are a concern, as potential thunderstorms and outflow gusts are forecasted, which could affect firefighting operations. However, overall, the current situation remains stable with a high degree of control established over the fire.
