Salt Flats Fire (TXTXS)

Wildfire Status:

The Salt Flats Fire, an active wildfire located in Aransas County, Texas, is currently burning approximately 157 acres and is reported to be very active to extreme. As of April 10, 2025, fire agencies have successfully contained around 85% of the perimeter. The fire prompted mandatory evacuations starting at 2:00 p.m. on April 9, as it posed a significant threat to nearby communities. Multiple fire departments, including those from Rockport, Fulton, and Goliad, are collaborating in firefighting efforts, supported by ground resources and aerial firefighting units.

The current weather conditions are moderately favorable for firefighting efforts, with relative humidity above 50% at the fire site. However, surface winds are expected to increase to around 10 miles per hour, with gusts reaching 15 to 18 miles per hour, which could potentially challenge containment efforts. Fire officials are closely monitoring the situation and working to mitigate hot spots and areas of heavy burning while continuing to widen and improve dozer lines. The estimated containment date for the fire is projected to be April 14, 2025, pending further developments in both firefighting strategies and weather conditions.

As of the latest update, a total of 279 personnel are engaged in combating the fire, with ongoing assessments to adapt the response as necessary. The closure of the 35 bypass road and the situation regarding evacuations will be evaluated further on April 10.
