Sandy Fire Active 2026

The Sandy Fire  in Kenedy County started on August 29, 2026, under elevated fire conditions. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters, and heavy equipment at 3:15 pm. Texas A&M Forest Service is currently in unified command with local departments.

Update - August 29 4:26 pm - State and local engines are engaged in structure protection. Fire activity is high with flame lengths 10+ feet. Storm cells above the fire are causing outflow winds. Dozers are making good progress on line construction. Air resources have made beneficial water drops.
