Lefty Fire has burned 1,382 acres, burning 22 miles south of Memphis.

The Lefty Fire started at approximately 2:00 PM on April 2, 2026, approximately 25 miles west of Childress, TX and was initially responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance with aircraft, heavy equipment and firefighters. The fire is currently in joint command between Texas A&M Forest Service and local firefighters.
Forward progression of the fire was stopped by 9:00 PM on 4/2/26. On Friday, firefighters worked to tie lines from left flank into the right flank. Engine crews continued to mop up any areas of concern. The fire showed minimal smokes within the interior in the evening.
Firefighters will return Saturday to monitor the fire and address any areas of concern.
As of noon 4/4/2026, the Lefty Fire is 100% Contained. This will be the last update for this fire.
