Latest update
Texas A&M Forest Service is assisting with the Hudson Fire in Bastrop County. The initial request was made at approximately 1:30 p.m. on November 3, 2024.
The fire was initially actively growing, being driven by dry fuels and a strong southeastern wind. The fire burned in pine-oak regeneration, in the fire scar of the Bastrop County Complex (2011) and Hidden Pines Fire (2015).
Local emergency responders from Smithville VFD, North Bastrop County Fire Rescue and Bastrop ESD No. 2, Bastrop VFD provided mutual aid to Heart of the Pines VFD. Locals were assisted by state resources from Texas Parks and Wildfire and Texas A&M Forest Service. Heavy equipment and aviation resources were on scene the first through third days.
Mop up activities were completed by firefighters on day 3,4, and 5, with the goal of extinguishing all heat within the first 200 feet of the containment lines around the entire fire perimeter. Firefighters returned to the fire on the morning of November 7, to continue any needed mop up further within the fire footprint, patrol containment lines and complete suppression rehabilitation on steep slopes and near natural waterways.
The fire reached 100% containment at the end of day 5, November 7, when crews completed mop up activities, finding minimal heat and seeing little to no smoke sources throughout the day. Residents in the area will continue to see fire trucks in the area for the next week to 10 days as they will continue line rehabilitation and revisit containment lines as pine needles drop off trees exposed to heat.
