Size: 300 Acres

Containment: 75%

The Saxon Fire started on August 9, 2026, in Burnet County and was responded to by local fire departments. Texas A&M Forest Service was requested to provide assistance in the form of additional firefighters and heavy equipment at 3:06 pm and quickly responded. Texas A&M Forest Service is in unified command with local fire departments. Heavy equipment proceeded to build containment line after forward progression was stopped prior to arrival.

Evacuations were issued by Burnet County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) and have since been lifted. Local fire departments will continue to monitor the fire overnight.

Firefighters today will work to increase containment of the fire. A TIFMAS (Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System) Strike Team has been assigned to the fire to further support containment efforts. Firefighters will continue with mop-up operations, ensuring that containment lines hold and all hot spots are extinguished.

Weather

Minimum Relative Humidity (RH) values this afternoon and Tuesday are expected to drop into the 35 to 40% range. Southerly 20-ft winds will remain at or below 10 mph through much of the day. Wind shifts out of the southeast this afternoon between 5pm and 9pm as the seabreeze progresses northwestwards. While there are changes of isolated thunderstorms along the seabreeze, these storms are anticipated to diminish prior to reaching the burn location. However, outflow winds could result in variable wind shifts. After 9pm any ongoing thunderstorm activity will diminish and reduce the chance for additional wind shifts.

Overnight will see respectable relative humidity recovery as 20-ft winds slowly shift back out of the south and remain below 10 mph. On Tuesday, afternoon seabreeze activity looks much less active compared to Monday afternoon and at this time no chances of precipitation are carried in the forecast.
