The Harris Fire started in the early afternoon on Monday, August 31. The fire is burning in thick grass and brush and experiencing moderate to high fire behavior. The fire crossed County Road 334. Texas A&M Forest Service personnel and equipment responded to assist local fire departments are working to stop forward progression of the fire. Four private bulldozers and 2 private motor graders constructed firelines on both flanks of the fire. Helicopters and air tankers supported heavy equipment working in the thick fuels.
Update - 1:27 pm, September 1, 2026 - Heavy equipment has tied in on the containment line. Firefighters will work to improve the line around the heel of the fire from the right to the left flank. Engines are engaged on the head of the fire, working from the north to the south.
UPDATE - 4:25 pm, August 31, 2026 - The left flank of the fire became very active and made a hard push to the northwest. Additional heavy equipment are preparing to engage the left flank of the fire. Aircraft dropped fire retardant on the right flank and head of the fire. The aircraft are now starting to work on the left flank of the fire.
