Moore Square Complex (IDNCF)

Wildfire Status:

The Moore Square Complex, located approximately 23 miles northeast of Riggins, Idaho, is currently composed of two active lightning-caused fires: the Ace Butte Fire and the Anchor Fire. As of September 20, 2024, the complex has burned approximately 3,673 acres, with 50% of its perimeter contained. Fire crews are employing completion metrics rather than traditional containment measures, focusing on managing fire spread through strategies such as point protection and indirect containment along existing roads.

Recent weather conditions have helped the firefighting efforts, with substantial rainfall occurring over the past several days, leading to decreased fire activity. Forecasts indicate continued precipitation, which is expected to further assist in suppressing the fires. Currently, there are 90 personnel actively engaged in firefighting operations, addressing significant events such as group torching and spotting within the fire area. The incident commander, Cody Cline, is overseeing these efforts with the goal of managing the fire's progression effectively.

Looking ahead, planned actions include continuing to provide point protection for identified values at risk and utilizing existing infrastructure to aid containment. Despite the favorable weather, crews are preparing for potential fire growth around the perimeter and are focused on completing indirect lines to mitigate further spread. The estimated date for full containment remains set for October 31, 2024, as firefighters remain vigilant in their efforts to bring the Moore Square Complex under control.
