Wildfire Status:

The Ace Butte Fire, located approximately 30 miles southeast of Grangeville, Idaho, has expanded to an estimated size of 152 acres since it was detected on July 24, 2024, following a lightning storm that ignited multiple fires in the area. Currently, fire activity has increased, and the situation has prompted a robust response from fire agencies, including the Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests' Fire Management team. As of the latest update, there are 11 personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts.

Significant measures have been taken to ensure safety and protect infrastructure. Structure protection around key locations, such as National Forest Service Road #444, Square Mountain Lookout, and Moore’s Guard Station, has been completed. In addition, an area closure has been implemented to restrict access to a large region encompassing over 57,000 acres to facilitate firefighting operations and protect public safety.

Weather conditions are currently a concern, as a return to hot and dry conditions is expected this week, with no precipitation forecasted in the next 7-10 days. Such conditions are likely to exacerbate fire behavior, heightening the urgency of firefighting efforts. Fire crews are also working to clear roads to improve access for firefighting operations, as they continue to monitor the fire's progress and adapt their strategies accordingly.
