Wildfire Status:

The Line Fire, currently active in San Bernardino County, California, has affected a significant area, with 51% of its perimeter actively engaged. Firefighting efforts began on the evening of September 5, 2024, when multiple agencies, including the Forest Service and local fire departments, responded to the blaze reported on Baseline Road. As of September 19, 2024, fire activity remains low but is being closely monitored. Firefighters are focusing on reinforcing control lines and extinguishing hot spots as they prepare for potential increases in fire activity due to warmer weather over the weekend.

Weather conditions in the area have been relatively mild with a slight chance of showers today and thunderstorms expected on Friday, accompanied by gusty winds. However, the anticipated warmer temperatures could reduce vegetation moisture, increasing the likelihood of fire spread. Fire agencies remain vigilant as they manage the situation and prepare for any changes in weather that could affect fire behavior.

Currently, 56,100 structures are under threat from the fire, with 11,400 of these under mandatory evacuation orders. Damage Inspection Teams have reported three structures damaged and one destroyed thus far. In response to the fire's escalation, California Governor Gavin Newsom has activated the California National Guard to assist local firefighting efforts, deploying helicopters and hand crews to the front lines. A Local Assistance Center will open on September 20, 2024, for affected residents, providing resources and support during this challenging time.
