Hughes Fire (CAANF)

Wildfire Status:

The Hughes Fire, which ignited on January 22, 2025, in the Angeles National Forest, has burned approximately 10,425 acres and is now fully contained at 100%. The fire response has been robust, involving a unified command from the Angeles National Forest, Los Angeles County Fire Department, CAL FIRE, and the Bureau of Land Management, with a total of 446 personnel engaged in firefighting efforts. As of the latest update on January 28, the fire exhibits minimal smoldering activity due to increased humidity and precipitation, which has significantly reduced fire behavior.

Fire agencies are actively conducting suppression repair actions in anticipation of expected rainfall, aimed at minimizing potential impacts on local communities and natural resources. The overnight weather forecast predicts cool, wet conditions, which are expected to further suppress fire activity. However, there remains a risk of localized flooding and debris flows due to heavy rains, particularly if thunderstorms develop, which may lead to gusty winds that could stir up any remaining heat in heavy fuels.

In light of the ongoing situation, the Angeles National Forest is temporarily closed until January 31, 2025, to ensure public safety and protect natural resources.
