Bridge Fire, 10/20/24 (CAANF)

Wildfire Status:

As of October 20, 2024, the Bridge Fire has grown by 346 acres but remains 99% contained due to the establishment of a contingency line around the perimeter. Firefighters are actively engaged in containment efforts, particularly in the challenging terrain of Iron Fork Canyon within the Sheep Mountain Wilderness. Recent weather improvements, including reduced wind conditions, have aided firefighting operations. However, the threat of flare-ups persists due to the forecasted strong Santa Ana winds, which could complicate containment efforts.

The California Highway Patrol has implemented road closures, with State Route 39 (San Gabriel Canyon Road) temporarily closed to all but residents and property owners, limiting access to local recreational areas such as Crystal Lake Campground and the San Gabriel River. Fire agencies have deployed aircraft to drop water on hot spots, and no new injuries have been reported. Residents are advised to report any visible smoke or flames by calling 9-1-1, as unburned vegetation within the fire's perimeter may continue to ignite and produce smoke.

In the aftermath of the fire, damage inspection teams have completed their assessments and resources for affected residents have been made available. The Angeles National Forest has issued a closure order for the area impacted by the Bridge Fire, effective until December 31, 2025, which includes restrictions on access to certain roads and trails.
