Wildfire Status:

The Himalaya Road Fire, currently active in the Fairbanks North Star Borough of Alaska, has burned approximately 6,074 acres since its ignition from lightning on June 19, 2025. As of the latest update, there is no containment reported on the fire's perimeter, which is being managed by the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 3. The incident commander, Matt Rau, is overseeing the efforts involving a total of 213 personnel who are actively engaged in firefighting and containment operations.

Fire behavior has been characterized by minimal activity, primarily smoldering, with occasional creeping observed. The fire has encountered various fuel types, including black spruce and boreal spruce, which are contributing to its spread. Weather conditions have been somewhat supportive of fire activity, with a transition to warmer and drier weather noted. Recent light morning showers have dissipated, leading to increased temperatures in the 60s and relative humidity dropping to around 50%, which could potentially enhance fire behavior over the coming days.

Fire agencies are implementing strategic actions to protect residences in the Haystack and Himalaya urban interface. This includes the use of aviation resources for water delivery and securing the fire perimeter in critical drainages.
