Himalaya Road Fire (AKFAS)

Wildfire Status:

The Himalaya Road Fire, which began on June 19, 2025, is currently active and has consumed approximately 3,319 acres in the Fairbanks North Star Borough, located 12 miles northwest of Fox, Alaska. As of now, the fire remains uncontained, with 0% of its perimeter secured. The blaze is fueled by a combination of short grass and timber with grass and understory, creating challenges for firefighting efforts.

The Southwest Area Incident Management Team 3 has taken command of the firefighting operations, which also include the Aggie Creek Fire and the Washington Creek Fire. Currently, around 100 personnel are involved in the response efforts. The cause of the fire is attributed to lightning, a common trigger for wildfires in the region. Incident Commander Matt Rau is overseeing the operations as efforts continue to mitigate the fire's spread.
