Aggie Creek Fire (AKFAS)

Wildfire Status:

The Aggie Creek Fire, which ignited on June 20, 2025, due to lightning, has currently burned approximately 38,702 acres and is located 23 miles northwest of Fairbanks, Alaska. As of the latest update, the fire is only 2% contained, indicating that it continues to pose a significant challenge to firefighting efforts. The Southwest Area Incident Management Team 3 is leading the response, which also encompasses two other fires in the region: the Himalaya Road Fire and the Washington Creek Fire.

Fire agencies have deployed a total of 101 personnel to combat the Aggie Creek Fire. Their efforts are focused on structure protection and monitoring fire activity, particularly along the western perimeter and near critical infrastructure such as the Trans-Alaska Pipeline. Planned actions include utilizing direct line construction, deploying boats for logistical support, and protecting structures in vulnerable areas like the Lower Chatanika River Corridor.

Current weather conditions are a crucial factor in the fire's behavior. A ridge of high pressure is set to develop over the state, which may influence fire activity through the weekend into early next week. The forecast indicates a transition to warmer and drier conditions, with temperatures rising into the 60s and relative humidity dropping to around 50%. While minimal smoldering is reported, the potential for increased fire activity exists if the weather continues to dry out, raising concerns about smoke production and further spread of the fire.
