Wildfire Status:
The Pack Trail Fire, which began on September 15, 2024, 23 miles southeast of Moran, Wyoming, is currently in a controlled state, with 95% of its perimeter contained. This wildfire, ignited by lightning, is situated in rugged and remote terrain across both the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Shoshone National Forest. While significant suppression efforts have been undertaken by an Incident Management Team, some interior smoke and heat remain, prompting ongoing patrol and monitoring of the area.
The current response includes 73 personnel, two crews, one local engine, and one helicopter actively involved in monitoring the fire's status. Recent winter weather, characterized by snowfall, has helped limit fire activity, with conditions expected to further suppress smoldering and potential flare-ups in the coming days. The fire is being managed using a 50% confine and 50% point-protection strategy, indicating a dual approach to containment and protection of resources.
As of now, all evacuation orders related to the Pack Trail Fire have been lifted, allowing residents and visitors to return safely. However, caution is advised when traveling near fire-affected areas, especially on narrow roads which may be hazardous due to snow or ice accumulation. Ongoing monitoring by the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests will continue as conditions evolve, and the public is encouraged to stay informed through local emergency management resources.
