Pack Trail Fire (WYBTF)

Wildfire Status:

The Pack Trail Fire, which ignited on September 15, 2024, is currently burning approximately 23 miles southeast of Moran, Wyoming, affecting both the Bridger-Teton National Forest and the Shoshone National Forest. As of the latest update, the fire has reached a size of 89,930 acres, with containment efforts showing significant progress—now reported at 95% completion. The fire management strategy consists of a combination of 50% confine and 50% point-protection tactics, with an Incident Management Team overseeing the suppression efforts.

Currently, the fire is in a patrol and monitor status due to the presence of some interior smoke and heat, although overall fire activity is described as minimal, with smoldering being the primary concern. The rugged and remote terrain has posed challenges for firefighting efforts, but recent winter weather, including snowfall, is expected to further reduce fire activity and mitigate the smoldering conditions. A total of 73 personnel, including crews and equipment, remain engaged in monitoring the situation.

All evacuation orders associated with the Pack Trail Fire have been lifted, allowing residents and visitors to return to the area. However, they are advised to exercise caution while traveling near the fire zones, particularly on narrow secondary roads that may be impacted by snow or ice accumulation. Local agencies, including the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests, will continue to monitor the fire area as necessary, and public updates will be provided through platforms like the Fremont County Emergency Management Facebook page and the Teton County Emergency Management website.
