Wildfire Status:

The Pack Trail Fire, which was ignited by lightning on September 15, 2024, is currently located 23 miles southeast of Moran, Wyoming, straddling the Bridger-Teton and Shoshone National Forests. The fire has a reported size of approximately 89,930 acres, with containment efforts reaching 95%. Fire management has employed a dual strategy of 50% confine and 50% point-protection, effectively suppressing the majority of the fire. The area remains under patrol and monitoring status due to lingering interior smoke and heat, although winter weather is expected to further reduce fire activity.

In response to the wildfire, an Incident Management Team has deployed 73 personnel, including two crews, one local engine, and one helicopter, to oversee suppression and monitoring efforts. There are currently no active evacuation orders in place, allowing residents and visitors to return to the area. However, caution is advised while driving near the fire zones, as recent snowfall has led to icy conditions on secondary roads. Authorities encourage travelers to check road conditions via the [Wyoming Road Information website](https://www.wyoroad.info) before embarking on journeys across the Continental Divide.

Weather conditions are playing a crucial role in the ongoing firefighting efforts. With the onset of winter, snowfall is anticipated to continue, which should help mitigate fire and smoldering activity. The fire is burning in rugged, remote terrain that presents challenges for firefighting access, but the combination of manpower and favorable weather is contributing positively to containment efforts. Residents and visitors are urged to exercise caution and stay informed through local emergency management resources, such as the Fremont County Emergency Management Facebook Page and the Teton County Emergency Management website.
