Stranger Creek II (WACOA)

Wildfire Status:

The Stranger Creek II wildfire, which ignited on August 18, 2024, has currently burned approximately 66 acres and is reported to be 90% contained as of August 24, 2024. The incident, attributed to natural causes such as lightning, is being managed by Incident Commanders Shane Roth and Nolan Roth, with a total of 79 personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts. Significant events related to the fire have been minimal, with the fire exhibiting backing, creeping, and smoldering behavior.

Fire agencies are focused on consolidating containment efforts, and the estimated date for full containment is projected for August 31, 2024. The fuels involved in the fire include medium logging slash, brush, and timber litter, which have contributed to the fire's behavior but have also allowed for a relatively contained situation.

Current weather conditions are favorable for firefighting efforts, as an upper-level area of low pressure is bringing below-normal temperatures and increased humidity to the area. There are potential rain showers expected, which could further aid in controlling the fire. However, as the upper-level low moves eastward, a shift to a drier forecast with a slight warming trend is anticipated, which may impact firefighting strategies in the coming days.
