Hope Fire (WANES)

Wildfire Status:

The Hope Fire, currently active in Northeast Washington, has grown to encompass approximately 5,634 acres since its ignition on July 8, 2025. As of the latest update, the fire remains 0% contained, with significant growth driven by wind, particularly towards the north and northeastern corners, where it has progressed through drainage areas. The Columbia River serves as a natural containment feature on the southern end, while fire personnel are actively working to secure structures, especially on the southeastern corner.

Firefighting efforts are being coordinated by the Northwest Complex Incident Management Team 8, which has taken over from Northeast Washington Incident Management Team 3. The strategy involves using a combination of aerial support from helicopters and air tankers, alongside ground crews employing dozers and handlines to strengthen containment lines, particularly on the southwestern and western flanks. Structural protection measures are a priority, with ongoing efforts to mop up hotspots and manage access routes such as Northport Flat Creek Road and Lael Road.

Weather conditions are becoming increasingly challenging for containment efforts. A warming and drying trend is expected, with temperatures predicted to peak in the upper 80s in valleys and lower 80s at higher elevations. Humidity levels are forecasted to drop into the mid-teens, coupled with a shift in wind patterns from east to south/southwest throughout the day. This lack of precipitation and the anticipated weather conditions suggest that fire activity may continue to escalate in the coming days, prompting a focus on reinforcing existing lines and preparing for further growth. Public safety is a primary concern, and residents are advised to avoid traveling on roads near the fire.
