Butte Creek (ORWSA)

Wildfire Status:

The Butte Creek Fire, currently raging in Oregon's Warm Springs Reservation, has burned approximately 2,050 acres and is only 30% contained. The fire's origin remains undetermined, but it is situated in steep and rugged terrain, presenting significant challenges for firefighting efforts. As of July 22, 2025, 196 personnel from Northwest Team 3 are actively engaged in managing the incident, which is located about 1.5 miles west of Simnasho.

Current weather conditions are a mix of challenges and opportunities for firefighters. Overnight humidity levels were high at around 80%, but daytime temperatures are expected to rise into the mid-80s with humidity dropping to approximately 25%. Winds are generally westerly, shifting from WNW to WSW, with gusts reaching up to 20 mph, particularly during the afternoon as heating increases. This scenario may contribute to fire spread, although it is anticipated that residual burning activity will remain minimal, primarily confined to creeping and smoldering in duff under juniper trees.

Firefighting operations will continue to focus on direct line construction on the north edge of the fire and indirect line preparation in other divisions. The outlook for the next few days suggests a gradual reduction in fire activity, with no significant spread expected. Overall, while the situation remains serious, conditions may improve as personnel continue to implement strategic firefighting measures.
