HTNF 2024 Initial Attack (NVHTF)

Wildfire Status:

The current state of the wildfire incidents on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest includes several active fires, notably the Broom Fire and the Trough Springs Fire. The Broom Fire, which began on July 29, 2024, has burned approximately 4,273 acres and is currently classified as confined and contained. In contrast, the Trough Springs Fire, ignited on August 10, 2024, has affected 197 acres and is reported to be 90% contained as of August 16, 2024. These fires are primarily lightning-caused, and while some are still active, containment efforts have been largely successful.

Fire agencies have deployed a variety of resources in response to these incidents. For the Trough Springs Fire, initial attack strategies included aerial retardant drops to slow fire progression, allowing ground crews to establish and enhance control lines. As of August 16, fire crews have made significant progress, and the emergency area closure that was implemented for public and firefighter safety is set to expire. However, public caution is advised as some firefighting efforts continue in the area.
