Wildfire Status:
The Royal Fire in the Tahoe National Forest was reported on July 7, 2024, in the area of Royal Gorge on the North Fork of the American River. The fire is currently 100% contained with a size of 215 acres. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The fire is located in steep, rugged terrain that is difficult to access, which has posed challenges for firefighters.
Tahoe National Forest, along with CALFIRE/Placer County Fire, Placer County Office of Emergency Services, and Placer County Sheriff’s Office, entered unified command to combat the fire and protect nearby communities and structures. Significant federal, state, and local fire resources have been deployed to suppress and contain the fire as quickly as possible. After successful suppression efforts, the agencies transitioned out of unified command on July 11, 2024.
The Royal Fire Closure Order has been issued for specific areas within the Tahoe National Forest to ensure public safety. The closure area boundary has been defined to prevent access to the affected areas. Weather conditions, including wind patterns and temperature fluctuations, continue to be monitored closely to prevent any potential flare-ups or spread of the fire.
