Hurricane Fire (CABBD)

Wildfire Status:

The Hurricane Fire, which ignited on July 13, 2024, due to lightning, is currently burning in the Carrizo Plain National Monument. The fire has consumed an area of approximately 12,703 acres and is fueled primarily by long and short rangeland grasses. As of the latest update, the fire's perimeter is reported to be 100% contained, indicating that fire management efforts have successfully surrounded the blaze. However, it has impacted lands beyond the Bureau of Land Management jurisdiction, affecting areas within Kern County.

Firefighting resources have mobilized significantly, with a total of 44 personnel actively engaged in response efforts. The incident is under the command of the BLM Bakersfield Field Office, and crews are primarily focused on reinforcing firelines to maintain containment. Additional resources are expected to be deployed to ensure that the fire remains under control and to mitigate any potential flare-ups or spread.

Current weather conditions pose challenges for firefighting operations, as the region is experiencing hot, dry temperatures coupled with low humidity and winds.
