Wildfire Status:

The Hurricane Fire, ignited by lightning on July 13, 2024, has burned approximately 12,703 acres of land within the Carizzo Plain National Monument, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. As of the latest update, the fire is currently active but has been reported as 100% contained, allowing for a more focused response from fire agencies. Despite the containment, the fire has spread off BLM lands and is now impacting areas in Kern County, requiring ongoing vigilance from response teams.

Firefighting efforts involve a total of 44 personnel who are actively working to manage the situation. The incident commander is from the BLM Bakersfield Field Office, which is coordinating the response. Planned actions include increasing resources on the fire to maintain containment lines and prevent any further spread, particularly given that the fire has been wind-driven. Evacuation orders are currently in place for residents in Kern County evacuation zone KRN-249-A, but thankfully, no structures have been reported as damaged.
