Borel Fire (CASQF)

Wildfire Status:

The Borel Fire, which started on July 24, 2024, near the Democrat Fire Station on the Kern River Ranger District in Kern County, has now burned approximately 59,288 acres. As of the latest update, the fire is fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Fire behavior has been minimal, with only isolated areas showing visible smoke within 100 feet of the fire's edge.

In terms of response, a total of 35 personnel are currently engaged in monitoring and mop-up operations. The fire management team plans to patrol the area and rehabilitate control lines to ensure that the fire remains contained. Forest closures are in effect within the fire area for public safety, and more detailed maps and information about these closures are available for those interested.

Weather conditions are expected to be a factor in ongoing operations, with anticipated above-normal temperatures that could increase the visibility of heat sources from pretreated islands near the fire's edge.
