Borel Fire (CASQF)

Wildfire Status:

The Borel Fire, which ignited on July 24, 2024, near the Democrat Fire Station on Highway 178 in Kern County, has reached a total size of 59,288 acres. As of now, the fire is fully contained, with 100% of its perimeter secured. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, although it was previously linked to the 2024 SQF Lightning incident. Fire agencies have implemented forest closures in the area to ensure public safety, and these restrictions are enforced under Forest Order No. 0513-24-22.

Currently, there are 35 personnel actively involved in monitoring and managing the fire situation. The fire behavior has been minimal, with primarily brush, short grass, and timber involved as fuels. However, with above-normal temperatures expected in the upcoming week, there is a potential for previously dormant heat sources to reignite, which may bring additional challenges to containment efforts.

The response strategy includes ongoing patrols and mop-up operations to ensure that any remaining hotspots are addressed. The incident commander, Jose Ceballos, along with his team, continues to oversee the situation, focusing on rehabilitation of control lines and maintaining vigilance against flare-ups. As weather conditions evolve, fire agencies remain prepared to adapt their strategies to mitigate any risks associated with the Borel Fire.
