Borel Fire (CASQF)

Wildfire Status:

The Borel Fire, which ignited on July 24, 2024, near Highway 178 in Kern County, has reached a significant milestone with 100% of its perimeter now contained. Spanning approximately 59,288 acres, the fire's cause remains under investigation, although it was previously associated with the 2024 SQF Lightning event. As the incident progresses, the area is under forest closures to ensure public safety and facilitate firefighting efforts.

Currently, a team of 35 personnel is actively engaged in monitoring and managing the fire situation. The fire behavior has been reported as minimal, with the primary fuels involved being brush, short grass, and timber litter. However, with above-normal temperatures anticipated, fire crews are on alert for potential flare-ups, particularly in isolated areas where remaining heat sources may become visible. Planned actions include continued patrols and mop-up operations as needed to ensure that the fire does not reignite.
