Canyon Fire (CAANF)

Wildfire Status:

As of Friday morning, August 23, 2024, the Canyon Fire in Angeles National Forest has burned approximately 16 acres and is currently 80% contained. Fire crews have made significant progress in securing containment lines and are actively mopping up hotspots within the fire perimeter. Fortunately, there are no road closures or area evacuations in effect, allowing for continued access to the region. Firefighters are advised to exercise caution while working along roadways to ensure their safety.

The fire was first reported on August 21, 2024, and has faced challenges including difficult terrain and high temperatures. Despite these obstacles, crews have effectively maintained the fire's size, which has remained stable since its initial report. Overnight operations included the use of aerial support, with helicopters conducting water drops on flare-ups to assist ground crews. A total of 25 Forest Service personnel are actively engaged in fire suppression efforts.

Weather conditions in the area have contributed to the firefighting efforts, with crews facing heat and challenging terrain. As they continue to work towards full containment, firefighters remain vigilant in monitoring the situation for any potential flare-ups.
