Wildfire Status:

The Wally wildfire, caused by lightning, is currently active one mile southwest of the Tonto Basin in the Sonoran Desert, covering an area of 685 acres. As of the latest update, the fire is 50% contained, with efforts from fire agencies continuing to secure and control the perimeter. A total of 10 personnel are currently assigned to manage the incident under the command of Vince Spina, Type 4 Incident Commander. Recent weather conditions have been somewhat favorable for firefighting, as significant rainfall occurred on Tuesday evening, which has aided in slowing the fire's spread.

The Gila County Emergency Management lifted the Set status for residents west of Highway 188, indicating a decrease in immediate danger to those communities. Planned actions in response to the fire include the deployment of two engines to mop-up and patrol the lower end of the fire. Fire management teams expect no further movement of the fire, allowing for a more stable and controlled response.

However, weather conditions remain a concern with high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees, the possibility of thunderstorms, outflow winds, and humidity levels dropping below 15%. These factors could present challenges in the ongoing efforts to fully contain and extinguish the fire. Fire agencies are closely monitoring the situation, ready to adapt their strategies as necessary based on changing conditions.
