Wildfire Status:

The Wally wildfire, located one mile southwest of the Tonto Basin in the Sonoran Desert, has burned approximately 685 acres since its ignition on August 4, 2024. The fire, which is attributed to lightning, is currently listed as 50% contained. As of the latest update on August 7, 2024, a total of 10 personnel remain actively engaged in firefighting efforts. Notably, a significant amount of rain fell on the area recently, which has aided in slowing the fire's spread.

Fire response has included the deployment of two engine crews tasked with mopping up and patrolling the fire's lower end. The Gila County Emergency Management team has lifted the Set status for residents west of Highway 188, indicating a positive shift in conditions. Fire officials anticipate no further movement of the fire.

Weather conditions remain challenging, with high temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit, low humidity below 15%, and the possibility of thunderstorms and outflow winds. These factors could pose additional risks, necessitating continued vigilance from firefighting teams.
