2025 - Bear Creek Fire Group (AKFAS)

Wildfire Status:

The Bear Creek Fire, part of a larger wildfire complex ignited by lightning strikes from thunderstorms on June 19, 2025, has grown to cover 27,943 acres as of June 30, with the combined Saint George Creek Fire reaching 22,343 acres. The initial Red Flag conditions, which led to extreme fire behavior, have since stabilized, resulting in minimal fire activity characterized by backing, creeping, and smoldering. Currently, the fire is not contained, with 285 personnel actively engaged in firefighting efforts.

Evacuations were ordered for communities along the Parks Highway due to the fire's proximity, and the highway experienced closures as the fire crossed it on June 22. As of June 30, evacuation orders have been downgraded in certain areas, but advisories remain in place for specific subdivisions. The Alaska Complex Incident Management Team has taken command of the firefighting operations, focusing on protecting structures and managing traffic restrictions while crews work along the highway.

Weather conditions have been moderately favorable for firefighting, with dry weather and seasonal temperatures continuing. However, predictions indicate a potential for warmer temperatures and scattered thunderstorms later in the week, which could influence fire behavior.
