Pleasant Valley Fire (WYWYS)

Wildfire Status:

The Pleasant Valley Fire, which began on July 30, 2024, has burned approximately 28,984 acres and is located about one mile north of Guernsey, Wyoming. This wildfire has now merged with the earlier Haystack Fire and is being managed under the Pleasant Valley designation. As of August 8, 2024, the fire is reported to be 100% contained, with fire crews having made significant progress in controlling the blaze.

The response to the fire involves a Wyoming Type III Team consisting of personnel from local, state, and federal agencies. Currently, there are about 40 firefighters on the scene. A community meeting was held on August 3, which was attended by around 200 local residents, indicating strong community engagement regarding the incident. Fire crews are now focusing on mopping up and rehabilitating the indirect fireline to prevent any potential flare-ups.

Weather conditions have posed some concerns for firefighting efforts. There have been daily chances of afternoon and evening thunderstorms, which could lead to gusty and erratic winds. Hot and dry conditions persist, but a cold front is expected to bring cooler temperatures, with forecasts predicting highs in the 60s for Thursday and Friday. These weather changes could significantly aid fire containment efforts moving forward.
