Pleasant Valley Fire (WYWYS)

Wildfire Status:

The Pleasant Valley Fire, which has merged with the Haystack Fire, is currently being managed under one incident command following its ignition on July 30, 2024. Located approximately one mile north of Guernsey, Wyoming, the fire has burned a total area of 28,984 acres. As of August 8, 2024, fire crews have successfully contained 100% of the fire's perimeter, marking a significant milestone in the firefighting efforts. The incident is under the command of a Wyoming Type III Team, which comprises personnel from local, state, and federal agencies.

Currently, there are 40 personnel actively engaged in firefighting operations. Significant community engagement was noted, with a meeting held in Guernsey on August 3 that drew around 200 local residents. The planned actions moving forward include continued mop-up operations and the rehabilitation of indirect firelines to ensure the area remains secure.

Weather conditions in the region pose ongoing challenges, with daily chances of afternoon and evening thunderstorms predicted. These storms could bring gusty and erratic winds, compounding the risk for flare-ups. Additionally, hot and dry weather is expected to persist through Wednesday, although a cold front is anticipated to bring cooler temperatures later in the week. Firefighters remain vigilant in their efforts, adapting to the changing weather conditions to mitigate any potential threats.
