House Draw Fire (WYHPD)

Wildfire Status:

The House Draw Fire, currently active and located approximately 9 miles southeast of Buffalo, Wyoming, has burned a total of 174,547 acres since it ignited on August 21, 2024. As of September 6, 2024, the fire is 94% contained, with minimal fire behavior observed, primarily consisting of creeping and smoldering. Suppression teams are closely monitoring the situation, focusing on suppression repair activities. The Incident Command is led by the Southwest Area Incident Management Team 5, under Incident Commander Dave Gesser, supported by a personnel team of 250 firefighters.

Weather conditions currently pose both opportunities and challenges for firefighting efforts. A weak cold front is expected to bring isolated showers and thunderstorms, with potential wind gusts up to 40 mph, frequent lightning, and minor hail. Cooler temperatures in the upper 70s and higher humidity levels between 35-45% are projected, which may help mitigate fire activity.
